Trial Begins For Marissa Devault In Hammer Killing

HLN NEWS: An Arizona woman is facing murder charges after her husband was found beaten to death with a hammer in their bed.
Like Arias, Devault faces the death penalty if she’s convicted.
Her husband Dale Harrell was brutally attacked with a hammer in January 2009. He suffered severe injuries to the skull and died a month later in a hospice. Originally, Devault told police that someone else attacked her husband, but when police challenged her story, Devault claimed she killed him in a rage after years of alleged abuse at his hands.
Because of similarities between this case and that of convicted killer Jodi Arias, the judge has reportedly warned prospective jurors that he does not want Arias trial watchers on the panel.
Arizona attorney Monica Lindstrom says she expects the prosecution to put forward evidence of Devault dating another man in the months before the killing. There are also reports that prosecutors may present evidence that Devault tried to hire a hit man as well.
Jury selection in the case began last week, and opening statements are anticipated to start the first week of February. Attorneys expect the trial to end sometime in April
