New Law Prevents Casey Anthony’s Atty From Stepping Down
WESH NEWS: Attorney Jose Baez insists the foreclosure on his Kissimmee home will not affect his defense of Casey Anthony.Baez said he has no desire to leave the capital case despite financial trouble.
Legal experts said they doubt Baez would even be allowed to withdraw from the case.An amendment went into effect this month in Florida that bans judges from appointing attorneys where an indigent client has already retained and paid a lawyer. Experts said the idea is to prevent a private attorney from pulling out once a client’s money runs out.
Criminal defense attorney Jeff Deen said Baez may have a tough time juggling this high-profile case along with his personal money challenges. Deen said Baez would not be allowed to withdraw as Anthony’s lead attorney.
“He’s in now. I would be shocked if Judge Perry let anyone withdraw now,” said Deen.
Deen said the new law, enacted this year by the Florida legislature, was enacted in response to the Anthony case.“If you start out with a private lawyer and ask the state to pay your costs, and if that lawyer tries to withdraw, it’s not permitted by statute anymore that the person would get a state appointed lawyer,” said Deen.
Under the old law, privately retained attorneys who had already been paid could step down, leaving the state of Florida to pick up the cost of paying a new lawyer.
Baez did not return a request for comment Thursday afternoon. SOURCE: WESH NEWS ORLANDO FL 5:40 pm EDT July 29, 2010

With all of the people who’ve been terrorized by Baez and those whose lives have been ruined by Crazy and her followers, there should be enough people to file a civil action law suit against the whole crew!!!

Jacquey - 10:40 pm - Since Bozo and team spent all the money for attorney’s fees, they are now only allowed to obtain money with the court’s permission to pay for any legal expenses and other expenses associated with this case, including money to pay for legal experts. When pressed to make public how that $200,000 + money was spent they got in the beginning, Bozo balked at that and was flapping his feathers and did not want to disclose that information to the public.
Perhaps because of that, if I am not mistaken, at that time Bozo was then told no more money for attorney’s fees - just expenses needed for this case. Perhaps that’s why Lyons pulled out. She knew she wasn’t getting any more money for attorney’s fees. If anybody has any other information that disputes this, I stand corrected.
Pat - 10:46 pm. - Regarding the fingerprints, they were able to eliminate all the of A’s including C$ndy. They did not eliminate KC’s, of course.

Cindy must be so proud that Casey was the reason this new law was passed. This is the closest Casey will every come to becoming a lawyer.

I honestly don’t think the state of florida would go for a death penalty conviction on a so called pretty young female if there were not a ton of evidence, because face it, not many juries want to send a young woman to death row. the evidence only leads to one person, and that is casey. honestly this case has made me wish I had gone to Law school. I would of loved prosecuting a case like this.

i don’t know that this would apply to HO-Say lieaez since he is not a DP qualified attorney. he might be able to wiggle out, although he’s dense enough to think he can get casey off , and become a legend…..
looks like he’s mangled his personal finances as well as business. wonder how long before his office is locked up because of his irresponsibility there??!!

Lauran, What “pretty young female” are we talking about here? Am I seeing the same photos as you guys??

I bet you anything if Baez was allowed to step down he would drop Casey like a hot biscuit because of the financial trouble. But the financial trouble is nothing new to bozo. He couldn’t even keep up payments to support his child. Everyone that started on this band wagon has stepped down except bozo and I think that may be because he’s not allowed. The next thing we will be hearing is bozo is in divorce court. Bozo thought when this all started that he had found a gravy train and it turns out all he found was a train.
