‘Van der Sloot’ Google search stuns slain woman’s brother
(CNN) — It was unlike Stephany Flores Ramirez not to come home on time. An avid poker player, the Peruvian 21-year-old lived with her father and knew he was expecting her after a night at a Texas Hold ‘em tournament on May 30 in Lima. ”My father called me and said Stephany didn’t come home, help me,” Stephany’s older brother Enrique Flores told CNN on Sunday. “So I went to the house and we started calling all the numbers of my sister’s friends that I had and we called the police.”“My sister was the only girl in our house, the queen of our family,” he continued. “What she wanted, she got. She loved to play soccer” and would organize matches with her friends in the family’s backyard.Van der Sloot is widely known as a suspect in the high-profile 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba. The Dutch 22-year-old has repeatedly denied involvement in that case. He has twice been arrested and released but has not been charged. Flores’ battered body was found last week in a hotel room registered to van der Sloot. Hotel videotape clearly shows the two entering a room together May 30 at 5:16 a.m. local time. Three hours and 20 minutes later, he left the hotel by himself carrying a backpack, telling the hotel staff not to bother “his girl,” police said.
The Flores family is well known in Peru. Patriarch Ricardo Flores is a politically connected former race car driver. The four Flores sons, including Enrique Flores, run a successful event-planning business. After police showed Enrique and his father the surveillance tape, they again began trying to find out more from people at the hotel, and obtained information about the man on the tape.
“They gave us his social security number and his name,” the brother told CNN. “We came back home and searched his name on the Internet. I cannot tell you the shock we felt.”
“My wife typed ‘Joran van der Sloot’ into Google and started screaming for me to see,” Enrique Flores told CNN on Sunday. “I couldn’t believe it. How could it be that guy?”
“All I have been doing is reading about Natalee Holloway and what her family has gone through,” Flores said.
Stephany Flores was a trusting young woman, her family said. “My sister is very friendly … always smiling, always nice to everyone,” said Enrique Flores. “I think about how she felt with him, that she probably did not think … and it is … so hard to think about that.” SOURCE: CNN NEWS By Ashley Fantz CNNJune 7, 2010 2:58 p.m. EDT

Jerry- I agree. Both these families are broken, forever. If this was in the cards, I’m glad it was in Peru. Very harsh and swift. Because he is not of their soil, it will be worst for him. They will avenge the murder of both girls. I do hope the Hollaway’s have some sense of relief.

I still think Joran was going to retrieve something in the room. Maybe Joran had borrowed money from her, but I think he had done this type of thing before many times to lure girls to the room. One of the stories during Natalee was that the Kalpoes had taken Natalee to Joran’s room at his house. I’m beginning to think that maybe Natalee died in Joran’s room at his house.

Pat- I don’t feel sorry for Anita, but I do for his brothers. They had no say in what the parent’s did and this will follow them. Hopefully his brothers are not like Joran. She’s quiet for now, think her husband ran the show.

I will always think his dad helped him dispose of Natalee. The mother probably knew but just stayed in the background. She didn’t seem very assertive when Greta interviewed them. Probably Joran ruled their house like Casey ruled the Anthony home. JMO

jat..excellent thinking. of course daddy helped him..daddy probably helped x vanderpoop get rid of many a females bodies..i am not so sure his dad wasn’t in the sex slave trade himself, and that is why arubans were afraid to prosecute joran, or even look for evidence, because the arubans were probably helping in the sex slave trading..big money involved in that trade…mommy is probably joran’s deceased daddies, sex slave, and is frightened of joran the monster son, and even more so of the monster that helped bring him into this world from that union.

Wasn’t there a well on Joran’s parent’s property that no one was allowed to check out and some animal next door was going nuts the whole time that Greta was there near the well.
A pet bird I think acting out of character. Does anyone remember that? I don’t think LE was ever allowed to check out the house or property.

I don’t know about you but when someone refuses to allow something to be searched, they have something to hide. I didn’t get the impression it was a working well, just a big hole convenient for disposing of evidence.

My surprise was that the Dutch attorney might attempt to contact Jv/dSloot by email after he was incarcerated. It certainly makes sense that the attorney would attempt to use email while Jv/dS was ‘traveling.” We, here in the US, actually do all the online activities that you mentioned, although, I will say that hand written communication is still a precious way to keep in touch. (To what clan do you belong?…mine is McTavish…)

IMHO - Joran is one of those ’sick’ individuals, whose personality is so skewed that he can function in a cold and calculating manner and then act out in anger and blind rage… I don’t think that it has to be one or the other…

Just been reading the paper and the outgoing Minister-President, Jan-Peter Balkenende(we had a government election on Wed.9 June ) described the VDS case as horrific & very damaging to our reputation in the world.
But we must follow due process & allow him the same assistance we would give to any of our citizens abroad.
I guess the problem with being a democratic, humane society means we have to accord “human rights” to inhuman x like this.
Unfortunately the perfect society does not exist.
