Suspect in the Murder of Emma Thompson posts bail
A convicted felon charged with causing the injuries that led to the death of his girlfriend’s daughter was released on Friday from the Harris County Jail after posting bail.
Lucas Coe, 27, had been in the jail without bail since his Aug. 10 arrest in connection with the beating death of Emma Thompson, 4.
Last week, Coe’s lawyer asked District Judge Mary Lou Keel to set $100,000 bail for Coe. The request was granted Thursday with the provision that Coe has no contact with any children.
Both Coe and Emma’s mother, Abigail Young, 33, were charged with one count each of felony injury to a child. They were living together at the time.
On June 27, Young took Emma to Memorial Hermann — The Woodlands Hospital. But, she died shortly after arriving. Doctors noted the child had 80 contusions, a fractured skull and a brain hemorrhage. There were also signs of sexual abuse, officials said.
Three weeks before her death, Emma tested positive for genital herpes. Child Protective Services didn’t remove her from the home because it can be transmitted in a non-sexual manner and Young insisted no other adults were living there.
Young was released from the Harris County Jail Aug. 11 after posting $50,000 bail.

Cara, regarding the article by Wendy Davis……Bert kind of reminds me of Bozo, oops, I mean Baez……..going on a “way out in left field ” fishing expedition! How absurd! Blame the bloggers? Please, give me a break! The reality is Emma suffered a horrific death that included sexual assault and the only adults in the home, according to the media, was Lucas Ruric Coe and Abigail Young (Thompson)! If I was an attorney representing that scumbag child molester, that is where my focus would be! Even Abby said in an exclusive interview she now feels so dirty for being with Coe that she took a bleach bath and still felt dirty. Poor Abby did all of that and she still feels dirty. Poor thing! Oh, my, he must be something else! Abby has genital herpes. I wonder if she got it from her lover Coe. Emma also had STD Herpes of the mouth, hands and genital area. With Abby, it is ME, ME, ME and how I feel, I don’t belong in jail, I didn’t go to my daughter’s funeral, blah, blah, blah…… just makes me want to puke (not vomit) on her! How disgusting! Since Coe is out, maybe they can get together and do bleach baths. What about Emma, Abby? How do you think she felt during the horrific abuse she suffered 12 to 24 hours before her death and prior? Maybe Casey and Abby should share a cell and see who can garner the most attention with Me, Me, Me……how I feel…..blah, blah, blah. Yuk, if I keep typing about them, my computer will need a bleach bath!
Hi, Kim! One of these days, it will be picked up by CNN. Keep working on Mike. When it goes to trial, I bet NG, JVM and MG (PrimeTime) will pick it up. You would be surprised of how many out of state TV stations have covered it. It is safe to say it has been covered all over the state of Tx. NG could just have a field day with this, especially since Coe is out on bail. She’d say, “Let’s unleash the lawyers”!

Kim, thanks for the Link re Kip Coe. Do you think his (Lucas) grandfather is and has been bank rolling the bonds for Lucas? Your opinion.
Also, the media has never said anything about where Lucas is employed. In the Ch 13 video (Link in comment - 2:26 a.m. above), they show a picture of Coe’s house and state neighbors have not seen him. Maybe he is long gone! House nothing to brag about compared to Abby’s which they show also. Dump to upscale……no wonder he was living with Abby. Oh, not really……there was Precious Little Emma for him to abuse and sexually assault and ultimately murder!

Abigail Young (Thompson), Emma’s so-called mother, has a court appearance scheduled for Thursday, 9-24-09 in a Harris County Court (Houston, Tx.)
While I agree that Lucas and Abby are despicable and deserve worse than they’ll ever get, you people need to check your facts. Lucas’s grandfather is deceased…a year ago this Saturday, but what does that have to do with this case? His grandfather sold the ranch in Rocksprings years ago, but what does that have to do with this case? None of your musings, ramblings, research, or comments are going to do anything for Emma or her family. Notifying CNN is not going to benefit Emma or her family. Nancy Grace is not going to represent anyone in this case or have any significant role in the proceedings. As for Lucas’s lawyer; every criminal of every kind has been able to find someone to represent him. That says more for the legal profession than it does for criminals.
To Karmichael: I can not speak for others on TCD but the following is my opinion. I think it is imperative that eventually CNN, HLN, or specific shows such as Nancy Grace, PrimeTime, JVM pick up the story on the horrific, brutal, atrocious, heinous death of Emma Thompson, an innocent 4-year old child. This heinous crime needs all of the exposure it can get just like so many other murders of children. Child abuse and murder is rampant in the U. S. These crimes are happening all over the U. S. Our children need to be protected. CPS has even failed many. CPS should have removed Emma from the home when she was diagnosed with STD - Herpes of the mouth, hands and genital area a few weeks before she was brutally beaten and murdered. Abigail Young, the mother of Emma, lied to CPS about Coe being in her home. With media exposure, concerned citizens react. The goal is to contact lawmakers and enact laws to protect the children in the U. S. I have followed the Emma Thompson case closely from the beginning. I have spent hours in encouraging media outside of Houston to cover the story. In this case, it is clear that the local media (Houston and surrounding area) have done an excellent job of covering this horrific crime. Based on the comment boards from the Houston area media, citizens are outraged. As a result of outrage and pressure, CPS is currently under investigation in the Houston area. As a result of media exposing court testimony, citizen outrage and pressure put the focus on CPS. Within 6 weeks of Emma’s horrific death, the State of Texas enacted immediate changes in CPS. The current CPS investigation is expected to conclude the end of October with the report going to the State of Texas Governor Rick Perry. You can be assured there will be major changes made in CPS as a result of that report. There are Child Advocate Groups and Victim’s Rights Groups monitoring Emma’s case and other murdered children in Texas very closely. People, with common sense, are aware that CNN, Nancy Grace, etc. are not attorneys in this case, will not be trying Emma’s case and have no role in court proceedings. However, the news media can expose horrific crimes such as Emma’s death and the abuse and/or death of other children. It is a matter of making the citizens of the U. S. aware of the crimes being committed against children. Hopefully, the concerned citizens will contact their lawmakers and DEMAND laws be enacted to protect children. It is obvious the laws at the federal level are not stringent enough. CPS should be overhauled nation wide. Based on Coe’s criminal history, he should have been thrown under the jail ! At least Judge Keel has him back in jail. If for some reason, he manages to get out, Montgomery County will be throwing him in the slammer because they have revoked his probation on a child abuse case pending in Montgomery County. I, like many concerned citizens, hope that our justice system works and Coe and Young, get the punishment they deserve. According to the media, this case is still under investigation. We, as concerned citizens, hope the charges are upgraded to murder instead of Injury to a Child. There are so many articles and video from news media. Here is the link to one of them. I personally do not know anything about Coe or his family. I do not personally know Abigail Young (Thompson) but I do know her mother and knew her maternal grandparents and great- grandparents. Based on that, I am having a very difficult time understanding how Abigail, a well educated Registered Nurse, who comes from a long line of prominence and wealth could have affiliated with someone like Coe and his criminal history. It is obvious, she put him before her precious little child, Emma. As a result, Emma was brutally beaten, abused, sexually assaulted and is dead. Justice for Precious Emma!
You make many valid points with regard to publicity of such cases impacting legislation and other policies/procedures. However, you err in your assumption that coming “from a long line of prominence and wealth” would preclude someone’s affiliation with someone of questionable, even criminal, character. It happens all the time that an educated and/or wealthy woman is drawn to the proverbial bad boy. Abigail’s actions throughout this tragedy demonstrate she may be educated, but she is not smart or responsible.
Good luck in your pursuits toward justice for society’s youngest and most vulnerable victims.

It is not my assumption as you state. It is fact. I am not at liberty to disclose that long line of prominence. In Washington County, where Abigail is originally from and where I reside, there has never been an incident like Emma Thompson’s brutal, horrific death. Wealthy, poor or otherwise! I can not even recall a case in Harris County that is similar to Emma Thompson’s case.
Either you misunderstood me or you are getting off the topic. The topic is the brutal, horrific death of Emma Thompson and the two adults, Coe & Young (Thompson), who were with her the last 24 hours of her little life. In a news conference, the Lead Investigator, A. J. Kelly, stated Emma’s death is the worse he has seen in his 19 years as a law officer (not verbatim). With that said, your statement, “It happens all the time that an educated and/or wealthy woman is drawn to the proverbial bad boy.” I do not know of one child abuse/murder where a well educated mother comes from a long line of wealth and prominence, affiliated herself with someone like Coe and his criminal history, and the mother (Abigail) is charged as well as Coe. Karmichael, I would really appreciate it if you would educate me and name specific cases such as Emma’s and share the Links with me. In a situation like this, I am dealing in fact; not speculation. I provided you links in my comment (9-22-09 4:02 a.m.) to substantiate what I was trying to convey.
I agree with you that Abigail did not act as a responsible parent. She is well educated and is a Registered Nurse, who took an oath to become a nurse. I hold people such as her, who took the nurse’s oath, to a higher standard. Based on court testimony at the Custody Hearing (especially testimony from her neighbor) and the Probable Cause Hearing, Abigail and Coe deserve the death penalty in my opinion. If the charges are not upgraded, the most they can get is life in prison without the possibility of parole. I pray everyday that the charges are upgraded to murder, they are found guilty and get the death penalty. Emma died a brutal, horrific death and the guilty parties deserve the death penalty in my opinion!
Karmichael, thank you for wishing me good luck in my pursuits toward justice for society’s youngest and most vulnerable victims. I am a very strong advocate for two segments of society that can not, in many cases, defend themselves……….children and the elderly. It is very rewarding to advocate for children and the elderly. I am just one of many, many advocates. Have you thought about joining a group in your area or writing the lawmakers and demanding a change in the laws to protect these two segments of society, especially the children of our nation? Justice for Precious Emma!

It is a blessing from God that Coe is back in jail. Based on his criminal history and the pending charges in Emma’s case, he is too dangerous to be in our society and have access to innocent children.
Precious Emma, I know you are in the arms of God and with the angels in Heaven. You and little Caylee are probably friends and looking down from Heaven hoping Justice will be served for both of you. God will never, ever let anyone ever hurt you two little angels again. Rest in eternal peace all of God’s children who have been murdered!

Precious Little Emma, you will be remembered on this day by all of those who knew you and loved you. You will also be remembered by many who have come to “know” you and feel love for you because you have captured their hearts with your sweet, beautiful pictures that your Aunt Amanda so kindly provided to the media.
We all know you are in God’s loving arms and He will never, ever let anyone hurt you again. I know you are one of his little angels with a radiant smile. I know your maternal grandfather and loving maternal great and great-great grandparents welcomed you to Heaven with love and open arms. Ginger and Denise, thank you for your concern for Little Emma. Also, thanks to Express for keeping a thread for little Emma. There are not any side-shows going on with this case and I know it will not be any from the maternal side of the family. Don’t know about Coe and his family. So…….just have to wait patiently for articles from the media.
Now when the trial starts, there will be a media frenzy because of Emma’s brutal, horrific death.
Abigail was scheduled for a court appearance yesterday. Still have not seen anything on it yet. Hoping for an update soon. Coe’s next court appearance is Oct. 2 in regard to a Bond Hearing. I hope Judge Keel does not make a stupid mistake and let this dangerous child abuser/pervert/ baby killer out on parole. If she does, Houston and surrounding area will be in an uproar again!

Denise, her so-called mother is a pathetic piece of doo-doo (Can I say that?). For your info, Abigail’s sister, Amanda, is seeking Justice for Emma. She provided the pretty pictures of Emma to the news media .
I go to the cemetery (to my maternal grandparent’s graves) often and drive right by Emma’s grave to get to my grandparents. Abigail does not even have flowers (silks) on Emma’s grave. Well, why should she bother……..she did not even go to Emma’s funeral! She admitted that in an exclusive interview with one of the Houston TV stations the day she bonded out of jail. In that interview, she reminds me so much of Casey……how I feel, I do not belong in jail, Me, Me, Me…….what a disgusting excuse of a human!
I am putting fall silk flowers on 19 graves and I made a beautiful floral arrangement with an angel in the arrangement for Emma. Tomorrow I will put hers on her grave when I go to put flowers on my grandparents’ graves. I stop by her grave often and say a prayer for her. I let her know that many, many folks are seeking Justice for her and the monsters will get what they deserve.
