Search for missing 5-year-old boy intensifies
OAKLAND, CA (KGO) — The Oakland homicide division is now involved in the search for 5-year-old Hasanni Campbell who has been missing since Monday. Police say it is because they need the additional personnel, and not because they consider it a murder case. A wrecking yard was the latest focus of their investigation
The focus of the search returned to the Rockridge area Thursday afternoon. Police sent 30 officers back into the neighborhood to visit homes and businesses they may have missed in the past couple days.
The boy’s faster father, Louis Ross, says the boy was last seen in the parking lot of a shoe store where the boy’s foster mother, Jennifer Campbell, works.
Police say they still have eight detectives working full-time on the case, including one from the homicide division.
The FBI and Fremont police have also gotten involved, searching the family’s home in Fremont and towing Ross’ BMW. According to police that car has now been returned to him.
“We have not spoken to the media up until this point, not because we were shy or we’re hiding,” said Ross. “We’re with the police and FBI giving them all the information. First day alone, we were with police for 17 hours straight.”
“He has taken a polygraph but he didn’t tell me what the results were, but he did tell me he spoke truthfully, answered all questions, but I haven’t spoken to anyone about it,” said attorney John Burris.
Police will not confirm whether Ross took or passed the polygraph.
ABC7 News has learned that detectives have visited an auto salvage yard in Hayward over the past two days. Employees there say Ross was there before the boy disappeared on Monday, and that the boy waited in the car while Ross searched the yard for car parts. Police confirm that they have been searching in that area as well as many others. They have also searched a levee behind the salvage yard.
Police have clarified that the boy is disabled, but does not wear leg braces, but instead wears orthotics inside his shoes. He is able to walk, although with some difficulty. Source: ABC7news.com San Francisco Thursday, August 13, 2009 | 5:07 PM

These poor children are comming up missing everywhere-shame!!! some of their own family hurt them-an my goodness the pedifiles do less time than someone writing a check on their own account to feed their kid-an it bouncing.May God hear the prayers going up for this child.Bless his heart!!!
Something doesn’t add up here: Yesterday, the foster family was upset at the description given, because it said he had visible leg braces. They were upset, they said, because he was wearing jeans over his leg braces, which were not visible. Today, they say he was in shorts, with braces clearly visible. This story has changed too many times in the last few days, as the foster Father originally said he entered the store through the back door. Now, he’s saying he went around to the front to ask them to open the door. Something is not right here, and I have a feeling the foster-family knows exactly where this child is. Hoping for his safe return, but going by history in this area, expecting the worst.
I can’t put my finger on it, but something is hinky!
This story is spinning like a story-go-round-go-round-go-round. I never believed any of the many different versions I have read of this disappearance of this poor little child. There is something tragic about this case…too many conflicting stories/excuses have been presented. :emotion:
Oh another bunch of web spinners. They are spinning webs of lies as did the Anthony’s.
This article states that the child is NOT wearing any leg braces. But, Jason (above) writes that there were leg braces visible. I’m confused………
The foster dad was on NG the other night and wanted to clear up some things. He said the braces are not the heavy, metal, silver ones, but light weight and fit underneath clothing and are not visible unless the child is wearing shorts. I understood that the he was wearing grey sweat pants (now I’m hearing jeans/shorts?). I wonder why foster dad has to park in the back and walk around the front to get someone to open back door (where little boy supposedly waited); why didn’t he just bang on the back door or call from his cell and say “open the back door — we’re here”. The foster dad seemed sincere on NG, saying he and his wife (child’s aunt) had taken this child and his baby sister in because their parents were not able to care for them. CONFUSION! He said Hasanni would always wait right by the back door while he and baby walked around to front of shop, and in that short time Hasanni went missing. Such an adorable child…..
Foster dad already has an attorney???????????????
This is the last paragraph in the above article. (So, no leg braces???)
Police have clarified that the boy is disabled, but does not wear leg braces, but instead wears orthotics inside his shoes. He is able to walk, although with some difficulty.
From what I understand, the father is upset because it was originally assumed and/or reported that Hassani was wearing full silver metal leg braces that are visible. Like pandalady said, on NG the father said he was upset because the description given of Hassani was incorrect and that people would be specifically looking for a child with leg braces. The father said that he DOES wear braces BUT, they are small ankle style braces that would ONLY be visible IF he were in shorts. NG made it clear to the listening audience that the description they initially gave of Hassani was wrong.
Now as far as the situation of his disappearance, I am just curious of what the father said was their routine for dropping of the children for the past 4-5 weeks. Pandalady, from what I understood is this, the dad parks in the back of the store so that the children can enter from the back. But the wife is in the front of the store, so he leaves Hassani to wait by the back door while he takes the 19 month old baby and walks to the front to let her know they are there and need to be let in. He sees her, she waves him the ok, he walks back to the lot with the baby and Hassani is no longer there. Now, what I as a parent don’t understand is if dad is taking that baby with him to the front, why wouldn’t he take Hassani as well? I know he had trouble walking but not that much trouble. Why or how could you leave one alone like that yet take the other with you? I would think you’d be able to just call her on a cell phone to let you in or something but the whole scenerio of making him wait alone in the back while he goes around is strange.
