Police search for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum
McCLEARY, Wash. - A search is under way in the small town of McCleary for a 10-year-old girl who didn’t make it home Friday night.
Lindsey J. Baum was last seen at roughly 9:15 p.m. on Maple Street. She was walking home from a friend’s house, and the distance she had to go was only about four blocks.
Family, friends and police are all aiding in the search.
Family members are concerned because she has never run away from home.
“We’re hoping that Lindsey’s just somewhere out there and she’s afraid she’s in trouble, and Lindsey you’re not in trouble - come home,” said Melissa McCann, a friend.”If anybody’s seen her, send her home.”
Lindsey is described as 4-foot 9-inches tall and 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a grey pullover hoodie with blue jeans and black shoes.
McCleary Police say she doesn’t have a history of running away, and since there are less than 2,000 people in town, someone would recognize her if she were walking the streets. Source

How close (emotionally) was Lindsey to her Dad. I know they lived in separate states & that he’s being deployed. Is it possible she is hiding in order to keep him here?

Anything is possible. With the FBI involved, would be surprised is there was anyone Lindsey would have known that they haven’t uncovered. Most little girls are daddy girls and with her mother moving the kids all the way to Washington state and the divorce, it must have been awfully difficult on Lindsey.
HLN is now asking us to vote on whether her father should be deployed with his daughter missing. They said they will be taking live calls in about an hour and a half. They ask that we call, text or email.

Cara-thanks for the answer & the link. like I said, I haven’t really been following this one closely, just skimming everyone’s comments. I can’t help but feel like this one is off somehow. I saw the link that you left, but I don’t really want to put a question like this there, it would be insulting to the family IF something bad really did happen to her. I just can’t help but feel like one of her friends is hiding her & no adults are aware of it. Somehow this one just doesn’t make sense.
But to counter this theory, she would have willingly missed her birthday, which most kids wouldn’t want to do. Also to counter this theory, if her point was to keep her Dad home, & close to her, she still isn’t with him now.
OK, I think I just talked myself out of this theory. I came up with 2 good points against my original thought.
But, I still can’t shake that somehow, something is just off with this whole story.

Sorry for the delay on answering this. Not that I’m aware of with Jennifer, and her family keeps pressing forward keeping her name and picture up front as much as they can. They express “awareness” and will never give up without answers. Drew Kesse is the president for the ”Florida Missing Children’s Day Foundation”.
I’m not one to throw opinions in print but I must say the Hataway guy they’re holding with the Tracy Ocasio case turns my stomach. If anyone has given me a sick feeling, it’s him. His previous “bob-cut” and mode of operation makes me see him in the surveillance video. I wake up hoping this pos will break one day and give people due rest that they so deserve. In my “opinion” of course.

Cara-yep, I remember seeing that on NG before she went ALL MJ-ALL THE TIME.
I guess anything is possible-maybe someone was trolling the neighborhood. Kids should not be walking blocks at 9:15 at night, and this is why! I don’t even let mine walk 3 houses down in the daytime without me standing in the front yard making sure they get there.
Julie, i hear ya…why do you think i have so much computer time, lol, my 16 yo is out of school for the summer and i’m a stay at home mom. Just wait until your 3 boys start driving! That has been the scariest thing for me, as a mom, in both my childrens’ childhood.
My concern is that people are going to be so busy judging the parents that they lose sight of the point, Lindsey is Missing. What her parents did or did not do at this point isn’t relevant to finding Lindsey. Agree, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Hope they have checked town records for old wells and septic tanks, etc, to rule those out. Whatever happened was fast and quiet.
Cara-believe it or not, I’ve already thought & worried about the driving.
I give you alot of credit for keeping this story active on TCD, otherwise it would have fallen by the wayside.

Cara and Julie, are you still here? I admit I don’t know too much about this case, but I saw Lindsey’s dad on tv, and he wasn’t very emotional. Are they estranged from one another? It’s bad news, imo, that her street is right next to an interstate highway.

TAC, sorry i missed ya…read back and you will understand more. Her dad is military ( trained to have a stiff upper lip) and her mother had moved the kids away from dad in TN (where he is stationed)to WA and divorced dad. Think divorce was final in April.

I did watch the father’s video. To me, he almost sounded like he could have started crying right at the end. Can’t imagine - think I would be numb all over - physically and emotionally. I just ask myself, are they acting like Cindy and George?

How does a community go on when one of their children is missing? I don’t know the answer but it seems they have. With the Bear Festival this weekend it is hard to imagine how anyone could redirect their attention. Does this tell the children of the community that they are indeed dispensible? That the interest is about 2 weeks media time before it’s old news? Are we truly a global community now and if you are taken outside the grid of search and not found immediately, then we move on? There must be answers however I conclude I don’t know them and my only conclusion is that it feels wrong on many levels.

Search for missing McCleary girl shifts
Investigators are shifting the base of their investigation into the Lindsey Baum disappearance from McCleary to Montesano.
MONTESANO, Wash. —
Investigators are shifting the base of their investigation into the Lindsey Baum disappearance from McCleary to Montesano.
Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott says after two weeks, the command center for the search for the missing 11-year old will be the sheriff’s office.
Scott told KXRO the shift should not be taken as a sign of giving up. Investigators are still hoping some clue may be discovered that will lead to Lindsey.
In the past two weeks, more than 100 searchers have used dogs, horses and helicopters to search the McCleary area for the girl who disappeared the night of June 26 while walking home.
