5-year-old Nevaeh may have been buried alive
Nevaeh Buchanan — the 5-year-old Monroe girl who was kidnapped before being found dead alongside the River Raisin under a layer of concrete — might have been buried alive, results from an autopsy indicate.
The girl’s cause of death has been ruled asphyxiation; the manner, homicide, a source told the Free Press.
Nevaeh’s aunt, Diana Lawson, confirmed that the family had been told by police that the little girl might have been alive when she was placed in a shallow grave along the River Raisin in Raisinville Township.
“It’s the worst nightmare,” Lawson told the Free Press. “All we can do is take it one step at a time.”
Testing on the girl’s body, including her lungs, show that she died after inhaling dirt. Authorities previously reported that she had no outward signs of trauma — such as broken bones or other wounds — that illuminated how she died.
Fishermen found Nevaeh’s body on June 4, 10 days after she disappeared from outside her Monroe apartment complex.
The disappearance prompted a region-wide search that turned up empty. It wasn’t until two men felt concrete crumbling beneath them as they fished on the riverbank that the girl was discovered.
Nevaeh was laid to rest a month ago Monday after a funeral attended by hundreds. Nevaeh’s mother and grandmother, Jennifer and Sherry Buchanan, are heartbroken, Lawson said.
“Sherry’s at work and she’s not ready even to come home,” said Lawson at about 6 p.m., as media people began swarming the apartment complex parking lot where the women live. “They can’t face this.”
No one has been arrested in the slaying. Investigators have received only partial results of tests the State Police crime lab conducted on evidence from the gravesite.

Please STOP and watch your children! It is sad but, in this day and age we CANNOT just let our children out to play we MUST be with them and wacth them… Because if we are not watching them someone eles may be…. So, watch your babies no matter what age (even if they are in your oen yard) and if you neighbors don’t watch theirs then keep a loving eye on them to - for the sake of the children!
The death penalty is too slow, too kind and just not bad enough for who ever did this. LWOP in gen pop would prove to be much shorter and nastier, not to mention cheaper in the long run. Nevaeh’s mom still has many questions to answer. How about some gen pop time for her too?

Oh my God this has broken my heart, the fear and panic that little girl must have felt kills me, whoever did this deserves the same death as she got - Something has to be done, I hope the police are working full time to catch this heartless monster.

Monsters are not the cartoon scary ones that frighten children in nightmares - These kind of monsters may appear to be as normal as you or I , except they have no heart, and their soul is roused when they commit these horrible acts of evil. I cannot imagine how this poor little girl suffered at the hand of an evil predatory monster. I hope that the FBI takes over this case, and that this evil creature is placed behind bars, LWOP. wasn’t the boyfriend of this girl’s mom a registered sex offender? arrested for molesting a kid. i thought there was a law or something that says they can’t have contact with minor children. the mom admits he had contact with her. something stinks here.

Jerry, for some reason the registry for sex offenders is a bunch of BS, and the offenders skate around it all the time. The murderer of Jessica Lundsford was also a sex offender, did not register when he moved in with his sister across the street from Jessica and then he raped and buried Jessica alive. I wonder why he hasn’t fried yet for his offense.

Far too many judges and people in LE refuse to take crimes against women and children seriously. The laws are there, at least in part, but the laws are not adequately enforced. An additional law is needed to punish women like Nehaeh’s mom, who knowingly and willingly exposed her child to sex offenders. Giving birth does not turn all women into good mothers.
It makes no sense to me that this mother has not been arrested and charged with child neglect or endangerment at the very least. She exposed this little girl to the worst of the worst - sex offenders! Yet she takes no responsibility for what happened and apparently LE is not going to press charges. This case is so sad and now knowing she was buried alive, my heart just aches for what this precious little girl must have endured at the hands of a monster.

Look at Casey leading the easy life, no worries, a menu to order snacks from, money in her account that she still has not earned, a dream team of attorneys, so what am I missing here, and where is the justice for Caylee.
ot sort of-but i wanted to say something. riley fox. 3yr old was bound and gagged, raped then drowned. the monster that did this should be shot, not hung. shot several times and allowed to bleed slowly to death. i can’t think of a punishment that fits that kind of crime, of all these monsters.
None of us would ever do this to our worst enemy. TORTURING children. Emcee, the death penalty should be on the books for every state. These people are beyond sick, they are monsters and we need to remove them from the planet. It would be nice to give them a dose of their own medicine, but we can’t because we are good people and cannot stoop to the level of these scumbags.

I agree! That mother should be in jail with her two buddies! Her statement that everyone deserves a second chance just blew me away! All mothers who allow their children out alone after dark should be prosecuted for neglect!

You want a change in the system?? Then make the change. Make a louder voice than just blogging here. Do you know a registered sex offender? check your local registry and find out where they live and make their lives a living hell. Don’t let our legislature sleep until we REALLY do something about these psycopaths. People that hurt kids need to be permanently removed from society, or rendered permanently innocuous.
