MANSFIELD — A convicted sex offender on the run for nearly a month with his girlfriend and her 4-year-old daughter has been captured in San Diego. The little girl is safe.
U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio Peter J. Elliott says Robbie Potter was captured on Tuesday after a manhunt that stretched from coast to coast.
Potter was in the San Diego County Jail and 4-year Haylee Elizabeth Jade Donathan was safe and unharmed. She is in the custody of childrens services in San Diego County.
“Once again, it was great teamwork between the United States Marshals service, our partners at Richland County Sheriff’s Department, San Diego authorities, and Crestline Police,” Elliott told WKYC.
Potter, his girlfriend Candace Watson, and Haylee were last seen in Crestline, Ohio on May 28. Watson was also jailed in San Diego.
Elliott says someone spotted Potter’s photograph which was displayed on a billboard in San Diego. Information led authorities to a Christian retreat center where the arrest of Potter and Watson took place without incident.
“Having the Richland County Sheriff’s Department join the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in January made a great deal of difference in this case,” Elliott said. “Together we pursued Potter relentlessly 24 hours a day.”
Potter escaped from a halfway house in Mansfield. He had been convicted of sex crimes against a minor and was wanted on state and federal warrants for probation violations.
“The bottom line is that Haylee is safe,” said Elliott, “and that Potter is in jail.”
Haylee’s grandmother attended a Tuesday night news conference at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The child was to be turned over to the grandmother’s custody within the next few days.
Preparations were being made to return Potter and Watson to Mansfield to face charges.Source

One child safe today…hundreds still missing. I will be happy for this one baby and will continue to hope and pray more will be found alive…although the chances are so small. My grandmother used to say, “what is this world coming to” and I never understood what she meant. Now…I think…my god…what has this world become?
Thank God she has been found. Also, thankful for the person who recognized the picture on the billboard and made the extra effort to provide information that led authorities to these creeps.
Thank God this little one was found. Problem is: what happens if she goes back home to grandma….who has a son that is also a SO.

I pray that this baby girl and her Grandma keep her safe ’cause it sounds like her mother and uncles have issues.
