Madeleine McCann:Image shows what missing tot may look like
(CNN) — The parents of missing English toddler Madeleine McCann on Friday unveiled a digitally enhanced picture showing what she might look like today if she is still alive.
Madeleine McCann was 3 when she disappeared in 2007; this photo shows what she may look like at 6.
Madeleine was 3 years old when she disappeared during a family vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 4, 2007. Portuguese police closed the case last July without a resolution.
The picture, which her parents revealed in an interview on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” airing Monday, is a school-style photo showing Madeleine at 6 years old, with a pink headband and shoulder-length hair.
An expert at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children created the image using photographs of Madeleine’s parents, a spokesman for the center told Guardian.co.uk.
Kate and Gerry McCann also discussed how they’re coping with the disappearance of their daughter.
“Child abduction, I think, could destroy any family. There’s no doubt about it,” Gerry McCann told Winfrey.
But we’ve been supported tremendously well and I think that’s helped us stay strong and stay together. Obviously, we’re really united in our goal and our love of Madeleine and Sean and Amelie
Kate McCann said she keeps Madeleine’s room ready for her and admitted to visiting it twice daily, “just [to] say hello… just [to] tell her we’re still going … to do everything we can to find her.”
Madeleine vanished from the family’s holiday villa at the Portuguese beach resort while her parents dined in a nearby restaurant. The couple have campaigned publicly for information about their daughter’s whereabouts since her disappearanceSource

I STIL THINK THE PARENTS WERE BEYOND STUPID AND IRRESPONIBLE TO LEAVE THEIR KIDS –ALONE–WITH OUT A BABYSITTER…I MEAN, THESE PARENTS WERE DOCTORS AND EDUCATED! YOU CAN SEE THAT HAPPENING WITH POOR, UNEDUCATED PEOPLE BUT, TWO DOCTORS WHO ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO LEAVE THEIR KIDS HOME ALONE WITH NO BABYSITTER..SORRY, IT IS THEIR FAULT ENTIRELY AND IF THAT WAS NOT CHILD NEGLECT THAN I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS..

The parents still do not bode well in my mind . . . I have always been suspicious of both of them. At the VERY LEAST they should have been charged with CHILD NEGLECT. These two idiots shouldn’t be practicing medicine, that is for certain!
This is such a sad and tragic case . . . that poor baby girl :emotion:
Not home alone, but in a hotel room, IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY, late in the evening, and doors unlocked and even partly open, when they were dining and drinking at a nearby restaurant. Obviously wanted to make ‘an abduction’ as problem free as possible. I don’t get these people, their children were just 2-3 years old :(

IVOIRE … I could personally NEVER leave my children alone. Having said that, it appears to be very common in Europe. I lived in Germany for four years when my children were 2 and 4. We lived on the German economy (not within military housing) and had German babysitters. A neighbor brought to my attention that in Germany, when you hire a babysitter, they stay until the child is in bed and asleep … AND THEN THEY GO HOME!!!
UNTHINKABLE!! What if the baby/toddler woke up and got out of bed? What if they got sick/scared in the night and NO ONE was there to comfort them?!?! What if someone knew they were alone and took them???
I made it EXTREMELY clear that at NO TIME were my children to be left alone. At the time, the exchange rate was incredible so our ‘baby sitters’ (3 wonderful sisters) were fighting to take care of our kids because they made huge $$$ … the exchange rate was something like $3.85 to $1.00! Another thing, most baby sitters (20 years ago) in Germany got paid the equivalent of about $5.00 for the night; then of course, went home when the kids were asleep!
While it’s not something I could even CONSIDER DOING, apparently different cultures follow different proceedures.
I agree with lillies 4u, There is suspicion of the parents that I cannot shake… ever since the beginning.. I could not muster sympathy for them, I think they or thwe mom, did something and it resulted in the death of madeline…. cadaver dogs said so too… in the hotel room and the trunk of their rental car….. dogs DO NOT LIE, ever….. at the least, these two fairly well off doctors were too cheap to bring along a babysitter for their children????? Even a neice would have gone on the trip with them to watch the babies…..

Stupid to leave kids without a babysitter– yes, absolutely but I would like to point out a few things:
1) They have been and are payng for this stupid decision each second of each minute of each day, belittleing them takes away from searching for Madeleine. I pray she is alive and well and that she is with a family and not a pedophile ring. Remember Shawn Hornbeck and Elizabeth Smart were found.
2) I believe that they must have been watched and their movements were tracked. There are allegations in that country on problems with child abductions. At the very least, they were not treated as would a child abduction in the USA.
Charging them is not going to help their other kids. Don’t believe the media hype, read the legal documents and read up on the police in that country (very different from America). They won their lawsuits against the media in the UK.
2) They called for help right away unlike Casey Anthony (31 days and it was Grandma who made the 911 call)
3) MADELEINE COULD STILL BE ALIVE AND RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES–BUT EVERYONE WOULD RATHER SPEND TIME YELLING AT THE PARENTS.
4) If you care, please go to their website and download the posters. What if Madeleine is alive and some sick pedophiles have her? How would you feel if you were a little kid and you were taken on your holiday? They could have told her anything, they could have dyed her hair, done anything. If anything, at least the Amber Alert is started in Europe and this has put a spotlight on child abductions in foreign countries. SAVE THE CHILDREN FROM PREDATORS!!!!

Once I heard the parents had left their children alone to go dining, I just couldn’t muster up much sympathy for them. How tragic for Madeleine! I don’t think she is still alive. :emotion:
These so called doctors obviously used some king of drugs to make sure that their children won’t wake up, while they were away every nite partying. Probably a drug overdose or child died choking on her vomit etc, imo parents made up abduction story, because doctors cannot afford that kind of mistake. Are they gonna move to the States now? :idea:

They are paying for their mistake everyday as they should be. No sympathy for anyone who puts their social life ahead of the kids. They are doctors and could easily afford to pay someone to watch these babies. Being doctors I always thought they drugged them so they would sleep so they could go out. If this was some poor schmuck that did this, there would have been child neglect charges and an arrest. Just because they are doctors don’t mean they should be treated different.
I’ve felt from the beginning these children were given med. to sleep and when they returned found Madeliene dead.That theory was validated when cadavar dogs hit in the trunk and hotel.It was an accident I don’t know why they wouldn’t come clean,and was the other child Madeliene was left with questioned about med. being administered to him?
If I remember correctly……..the father is a heart Dr. or surgeon and the mom is a pediatrician, of all things. I have worried whether or not the parents are innocent and we are bashing them unfairly too, but then I think about the cadavor dogs, etc also and think, noooo, my first impressions are usually correct and I have always thought they had something negligent toward Madeline’s demise. Same with Casey and Caylee. The what if’s are haunting, but you have to go with your gut. Casey does, so why can’t we? My gut says black clouds all around with both. She sure is a cutie though. It’s a crying shame for all of these poor little children who have had the decision made for them that they are in their way of having a personal social life outside of their children in such a way to be so selfish. There is room for both. It just takes more planning. It is worthwhile.
I never heard about the tunnels running under their hotel until tonight on Geraldo. Are the tunnels something new the cops released? Also, I did’nt hear about the dogs hitting on areas either? Where have I been? Such a sad thing to happen. Doctor mom has to live with that for rest of her life. About leaving kids alone after they fall asleep…..what about a fire starting somehow? That would be my first thought? No way would I leave babies alone in a strange motel anywhere!!!!
You all are disgusting. I can understand (and partake in) the Casey Anthony bashing but the McCanns are
honest, loving parents who made a mistake and suffer from its consequence everyday of their lives. I’m glad to hear
that you are all perfect, mistake-less parents but get off your high horses and cut real grieving parents some slack.
jeepers, how do you know the McCann’s are ‘honest, loving parents’ ? .. you call leaving three children under four years of age a ‘mistake’ .. I call it blatent neglect and they should’ve been prosecuted for it ! .. no sympathy at all for this pair of child abusing scum who used public donated millions to hire the best extradition lawyers in the UK, Carter Ruck.

I am glad to see that most of us are in agreement here. I never really got into this case that much because I, a parent, was completely turned off by the behavior of the McCanns. When I heard the story and found out the they left the children alone, and selfishly went to dinner instead of ordering in or hiring a sitter(which they could easily have afforded to do) I was flabbergasted. I just couldn’t comprehend how they could do that. Even if the room was fully secured, I thought what if one of the babies woke up and mommy or daddy arent’ there? They’d freak, or what if one fell out of bed, etc.? It’s something I would never do. My kids are more important to me than feeding my face and drinking wine. Plus they were in a foreign country, unknown to them.
To Jeepers, I am confused by your statement. It’s okay to bash the Anthony’s but not the McCanns. That makes no sense to me. Neither one is really the right thing to do. Unless you know them up front and personal, you really can’t say, none of us can, that they are real grieving parents. I don’t feel that believing that your children should come first is disgusting behavior at all. It shows that you love your kids and are not selfish.
Actually, you have all shown that you know next to nothing about the case except what you are fed in the media. What I was hoping is that Madeleine would be found or that people could look for Madeleine as she could be anywhere in the world. There is no proof that she is dead. As for the cadaver hits, if you’ve read up on the case, these were well long after and there were other people who had stayed in the same apartment. The supposed hit on the trunk of the vehicle was 23 days after and again, inconclusive. Even in reading the blogging on Casey Anthony, are you guys more concerned with entertainment rather than the kids who got murdered or missing? It is easy or a person to be vilified or a picture to be painted, but don’t mix up the McCanns with Casey Anthony. There were 8 couples who were at the dinner in that Tapas Restaurant that night, each were taking turns to look on the kids. There were 8 children on that holiday and all were in the same age ranges as Madeleine and her siblings. They had left their kids with this babysitting “listening service” which they have at European holiday destinations. Again, not what people do in North America, but why is it that it is so easy to dismiss this case? I think a lot of people are jealous because the McCanns are Doctors and there is a higher expectation for educated people. Also, they are an attractive couple who people condemn because they were doing what was considered normal for them. Again, do not agree with leaving any kids alone–huge mistake they are paying for every day. They are devastated–it so easy to wreck people via the eye of the media and either build them up in the public or tear them down. The point of this rant is that missing kids are being stolen; it is easier to think it was just some random event and to blame the parents for their stupidity in leaving the kids alone. Well, I still think they were targetted as an easy mark because of these people dining on holiday. So, until they can prove Madeleine was killed– where there is no proof yet provided– she must be alive somewhere. Imagine if you were a little kid and that happened and no one looked for you. God only knows what happened and the person or people who abducted that poor kid from her holiday and family. :(
If people would inform themselves of the true facts in this case, they would see that the parents are responsible for what happened to Madeleine, she was left alone in the apartment with her siblings because she was sedated, the parents felt at ease leaving them alone because they never expected them to wake up. Something happened in that apartment and it was covered up by the parents. I live in the UK and this case really makes me angry as they continue with their lies and get away with it! The Anthony family are nothing compared to these liars. Check out the cadaver dog videos on youtube please.
What bothers me is that I was hoping that people would be willing to look for this little girl and not ASSUME she is dead due to the spin of media and the problems with LE in that country. If you make it look like a kid is dead, then no one will look for her. As for the cadaver dogs, it was a long time afterwards and if you believe that, then I guess you’ll beleive the Tru Tv episode with the psychics and the other media inflated stuff. If anything, I hope people will do more than just pray for kids to return but to also really look at kids and make sure that they act on their suspicions. There are far too many missing children in the world and are too easily forgotten because the media turns people one way for them or the opposite way, against them. The point is to find the kid make sure the kid is alive and well.
